Ecotekk.co.uk, suffered a malware attack last week, resulting in content being stolen from our website. Customers should not worry however, no customer information what-so-ever is stored on the website, at any time. In fact, all that was stolen seems to be original, written content relating to Solar PV designs and equipment, and images of some of the beautiful solar panel installations Ecotekk have done for people.
We’re not unused to having other companies rip off our informational literature, marketing materials, or even our name and logo, which although slightly annoying, we nevertheless see as it as par for the course, understanding that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, after all. But previous to this incident it was more plagiarism than outright theft -text copied verbatim, other companies claiming to have fitted jobs we did, using our illustrations and images, etc, so this episode has definitely been a little bit different to the other times. The images are in fact the least problem to replace -there´ll be back ups somewhere for pretty much everything- although that won´t be the case for much of the written work, the original form of which was, in many instances, produced on the website itself, and so is irrecoverable at this point.
One thing we would just like to state for anyone looking at our site and seeing anything missing, or perhaps appearing in the wrong section – we are aware of these issues now and will be working to fix them as soon as possible. There is no need to get in touch about any issues like this -they´ll all be addressed soon enough. All other enquiries-were available as usual if anyone wants to get in touch.
We will not be re-posting old news, so effectively there’ll be a clean slate for the Latest News´ section from the time from the site was attacked. The blog posts, which were all taken offline, we will look to re-upload where back-up copies are available. Any other missing images, illustrations or text, we are working on replace also.
Going forward, we’ll obviously be reviewing our cyber security and be more careful to make back up´s of any of written material that we wouldn’t want to either lose or have to re-do, and just carry on installing solar panels throughout Neath, Swansea, and the rest of South Wales. We’ve always said that we create, not compete. Others follow. It’s not surprising the rest want our content, Ecotekk do the best Solar PV designs and the most beautiful solar panel installations.
